Up for auction here is a Vintage (guessing 50's) Newcomb PA/Guitar/Harp/Mono Tube Amplifier using 4 6AV6's (3 RCA's and a GE) in the power section; 2 6SC7's, a 6SJ7, and a 6SN7 (all RCA) in the Pre-Amp section; and 2 5Y3 GT Rectifiers (RCA). Puts out 25 loud and proud watts, with the Mic channels going higher gain than the Phono. This guy is loooooooud!!!! I've used it as a guitar amp, but only in situations where I can get loud as all get out in order to have an appropriate amount of crunch. Works great as a PA because it gets loud without breaking up. I've also used it as a hi-fi set up, running my Bogen Turntable through the RCA jack under the hood (Phono channel). The transformers are burly as bigfoot, and there's even a fan in the interior to keep it cool while running.
Has three discete channels: Phono (which uses the RCA under the hood for input) w/ Bass, Treble, and Volume Controls; Mike 1 w/ 1/4'' input on front and Volume Control; and Mike 2 w/ 1/4'' input on front and Volume and Bass Controls. Check out those original, awesome chickenhead knobs!!! Front panel also has a scratch filter on/off (creates a slight tone difference). Front outputs include 2 Pos/Neg Speaker Outs (made for Newcomb 2-prong plugs but shoving bare speaker wire in there works as well) on the far left, and one each 1/4'' and RCA pre-amp/moniter/direct recording outs in the center. I've also attached a 1/4'' output to the back. Impedance in switchable from 4 to 8 ohms via a switch under the hood. Also, there's a schematic under the fan. Its a great amp that won't dissapoint.
Tested great just now, been playing it on and off for a while and has never let me down. That being said it is a vintage piece of electronics and may require occasional tweaking. Tubes are the ones it came with when I bought it so I have no idea how much longer they will last, same with caps, so there are no guarantees or warranties. I have to say this because out of the 30+ tube amps I've sold on eBay one tested good with me but the receiver said it was faulty when he got it. I asked him to check the caps and tubes, he didn't know what that meant, and I refunded him a bunch of money to take it to an amp tech for something I probably could have fixed for 50 cents myself. Plus I have no idea whether or not it really arrived faulty.
That being said, this fella is working good right now. Shipping is $25 (sorry but its big and heavy) and payment is by Paypal only. Thanks.
