This Auction is for :
(1) Marshall 1976 JMP Superlead 100Watt Head Model 1959 Very Rare 3-Rocker Switch (1976 was the transitional year to the rocker switches from the toggles.) SN# SL/A 09355H H=1976
Marshall 1976 JMP Superlead 100Watt Head Model 1959. First off this is a players head and by no means a show piece, but if you don't mind a few character scars here and there You will not be dissapointed by the sound of this Beast. Yeah I mean Loud as Hell and Tone for Days.....This head has had a few simple Mods done ( bypass switches on the back panel) and I took the Master Volume Mod out cause it seemed like it made it more muddy than good tone and yes I was right to put back to stock 2-channel like it should be. I always use a two way splitter into both channels anyway to get that cascade effect of the sounds. One bypass switch is for the bright cap and the other one is for increased definition (low end). Man this head has that perfect Skynryd/Black Crowes Tone around 3 and AC/DC like tones on 5 and straight to a Accept *Balls to the Wall*/ and Early Metallica (Seek and Destroy) sound at 7. This head seems to compliment my '70 les paul w/h EMG 81's Damn Good, also straight in from a '79 strat you can get those great Robin Trower/ Stevie Ray Vaughn Tones with the volume around 3 or 4. This is one of the only models like this with three rocker switches I have ever seen except for the Marshall Stacks on the Anvil Movie and of course Spinal Tap ( the original head that goes to 11). The only other ones that I have owned with three rocker switches are the 25th anniversary heads or as we know them now as the Slash heads.
The Third Rocker switch on the front panel was originally for polarity but has been diabled since it has had a three prong cord installed. The lights on the power switch still works just like it did in '76 good and bright. It has a Quad of Electro-Harmonix EHKT-88's installed and Biased accordingly and a couple of marshall red label Groove Tubes 12ax7(ecc83) pre-amp tubes and I believe the other preamp tube is a telefunkin. This head is really probally one of the better sounding 4-holer heads I have ever owned. It just blows a stock plexi away with tone. Like I said it has "Balls that Clank" if your into a real all around sounding head then this one is it. Throw a few pedals in front of it and you have jumped into a Zakk Wylde / Metallica/ Slayer sound that just makes your nuts shake. I am currently running this head into a Marshall 1960B Camo Cab (my cab in my other auction) loaded with old school Celestion G12-75's(Awsome) but this head sounds great with whatever kinda speaker you can throw at it and still got some to give.I was originally going to retolex the head to match the camo cab but just never had the time or the extra money but,I do have the camo tolex to cover it that I will throw in if you would like just let me know.(Sorry I don't have the original back panel that goes with is head.) There is a Painted Stencil #2 in white paint on the top of the head box. I'm sure with a little mineral spirits it will come right off. Please feel free to shoot me an email with any questions you might have.
I just wanted to add that the power tubes that are installed are EHKT-88"s with a certain bias adjustment made. This head will still accept EL-34 & 6550 Power tubes but you will need to get the bias reset on the head when you choose to replace them.. I personally liked the KT-88's a lot better, they just seem like they help the amp breathe better and gets that good smooth growl to it around 5 or 6 to where as the EL-34's were a bit crispy(thin) and the 6550's were a bit too agressive and crunchy for my taste.
