Vintage Guitar Amplifiers

This is a 1962 or 1963 Bandmaster amplifier head.  It works great, has a killer break up and a wonderful tremolo.  I bought this from the son of the original owner, who did not realize when he sold it that it had a blown output transformer.  Bill Webb of Austin Vintage Guitar replaced the transformer with the most appropriate replacement, (along with some caps and a very long three pronged chord).  Bill works on Erick Johnson’s amps, as well as Jimmy Vaughn’s; he knows what he’s doing.    

These amps are known for their amazing tremolo, and for a somewhat warmer sound than the Blackface era amps that followed them.

The back panel on this amp is missing, and, as the pics show, the tolex is stained, but not torn.  The grill cloth is oxblood color, a very cool looking combination with the blonde tolex.   As the pics show, this amp has seen some action, a player’s amp.
