CUSTOM KRAFT

ELECTRA BASS AMP

These are cool old amps.Custom Kraft is a store brand that I usually see on Supro guitars. The amp appears to be a the store brand version of the Lectrolab 700c.These amps are better suited for guitar or harp/harmonica than bass.I believe that this one has been recovered in the tolex that you see.The original Jensen speaker is not a heavy duty speaker and will break up when the amp is turned up.Transformers and Mallory capacitor are turned the wrong way for me to see a date.Speaker is dated 65 and their is an ink date on the chasis for 65.The amp does not get very loud but having owned one in the past, that seems to be the nature of them.I read online that they are rated at about 12 watts. It has 2 - 12ax7 preamp tubes that the makers name has faded off of and the sockets call for 2 - 7189 power tubes. Both power tubes were blown when it came to me and I replaced them with 2 Sovtek EL84s.The bass knob is off center because half the bass pot shaft is missing for the set screw to tighten down although the knob is tight.Pots are scratchy. The amp has had a speaker out added to the chasis to drive another cabinet.Okay,so how does it sound. It should sound really good but the amp distorts at all levels.Although it distorts more when you turn it up.I tried the speaker through another small head and it is not the problem although it will break up when turned up.The tubes seem to be fine. So,it will probably not be a big deal for someone with the skills to check out the capacitors, etc. This is a bieing sold as is;a working project.
